Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge Review

23.5.16

I am sure that everyone knows about the original 'beautyblender' and most of you may have already purchased one by now. It's a great way to apply your makeup that leaves your face looking flawless and healthy looking. I've purchased one myself a year ago and loved it so much, but when it was time to throw it out I could not bring myself to pay another €20 for a sponge. I made it a mission to try finding a dupe that's just as great. I came across the modelsown sponges in Urban Outfitters like I mentioned in this haul. I did not end up liking it all, since it is like many of the other cheap sponges that are too tough and thick unlike the original one that is so soft and grows big when wet. I found it quite weird how it was actually 10 euros for a pack of two and felt as tough as the very cheap ones you can find on Amazon.

After trying that sponge out, I gave up and just decided to buy the original beautyblender when I came across the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge, and it was the last one left too! I heard that it's the best dupe out there hence it gets sold out pretty fast here. It was only €5 which is amazing because you can buy four of these and it'd be the price of just one original beautyblender. I think that would also encourage people to throw their sponge away when it's actually time and not keep their sponge for a year like I did (oops).

They claim:

This versatile beauty tool was designed with a revolutionary foam technology to evenly blend makeup for a smooth, enhanced finish. Use damp for a dewy glow or dry for a full coverage. For best results, replace your makeup sponge every 1-3 months.

> rounded sides blend large areas of the face with a dabbing motion
> precision tip covers blemishes and imperfections
> flat edge for contouring around the eyes and nose
> ideal for liquid foundation

I'd say that everything they claim is true. I find that using this and mixing my moisturizer with a bit of my foundation (making my own tinted moisturizer) just gives a beautiful dewy glow to my face. Ever since using this method, I have gotten so many compliments on how healthy my face looks. My makeup routine already took only about 25 minutes and this just makes it even shorter now. It blends everything so seamlessly and quickly.

I definitely prefer this over the original one, and will be purchasing this whenever I spot another one. You cannot go wrong with this product, especially since it only costs 5 euros. If you haven't tried using a sponge to apply your makeup, I'd say give this one a go before purchasing the 'original beautyblender' as some people may not like the dewiness. If your skin is very oily and you use a matte foundation, I think that this sponge could still work for you along with your mattifying powder.

Do you prefer applying your foundation
with a sponge or brush?

  1. I bought this the other day and I don't like it at all! It doesn't work for me but I think that's just because I'm using it wrong, but I'm sticking to my brushes for now haha! x

  16. I love the real techniques sponge as much as the beauty blender. The only down side, it wears off pretty quickly, while the beauty blender last much longer.

  17. What a great sponge, and I love that it has a flat side! I usually apply my foundation with a brush, but have tried to original beauty blender. It's very nice and looks lovely, but it absorbs so much of my foundation. I'll go for the beauty blender on special occasions.

  18. Omg yaaaaas, the real techniques sponge is my life saver. I have three of them at the moment, one could do with really being thrown out but I just love them so much. Definitely prefer to blend my foundation using this as it is more natural, vs. using a brush. Also feel like it prolongs the longevity of my makeup. Such pretty pictures of it too! Xx

  19. I prefer using a sponge to blend in my foundation rather than a brush because I prefer the finish so i would love to give this a go and compare it to the beautyblender. I've already heard so many great reviews about this!

  22. Many seems to love this but I am still using either fingers or buffing brush to apply my foundation. I am definitely planning to pick up the RT sponge in the future, just to see if I enjoy applying my foundation with a sponge.

  35. I use sponges to blend my foundation and I agree that there are great alternatives to beauty blender and for better price. Beauty products are such a good quality even drugstore ones these days, so there is no need to spend that much to have decent product:)
