My New Year's Resolutions | 2016

31.12.15

Personally, this has been a hectic and overwhelming year for me. I've gone through things that has shaped me into a completely different person than I was at the beginning of the year. I've been in situations where I had to step out of my comfort zone (unwillingly; without a choice really). It could be the move and the new environment/school but I've also been feeling more anxious and awkward around people too. I'm just really excited for a new year to start, one of the best feelings in the world is having a clean slate. I usually don't set goals for myself for the new year's but I decided to go for it and share them with you guys as well. I didn't set up too many goals or unrealistic ones for myself as I would like to focus more on the most important ones that I want to have completed by the end of 2016.

// BLOG CONSISTENTLY

I already put up a post a week ago about how I've been slacking on blogging, so one of my goals would definitely be to have two posts up in one week (Monday + Friday). Hopefully, I can be more organized and blog consistently!

// STOP UNDERESTIMATING

I definitely want to be more confident and believe in myself more. I feel like I constantly belittle myself. Whenever I come across someone with talents, instead of questioning my own, I want to simply just admire theirs without thinking too much about the things I'm not able to do.

// BE MORE OF AN OPTIMIST THAN A PESSIMIST

Is it just me that always thinks about the worst thing that could happen instead of the best? I'm definitely a pessimist and it sucks. I would love to be more positive and even if I'm feeling quite gloomy one day I do not want to rub off any negativity on others surrounding me.

// STEP OUT OF MY COMFORT ZONE

This is a hard one. I'm a very shy person. Well, actually it differs with who I'm around, where I am, basically the atmosphere and how comfortable I am. I wasn't really shy back in Dubai, especially not in school. Here, I'm constantly turning red when everyone looks at me or when I have to speak in front of 20 people. I'd also like to step out of my comfort zone, blog-wise. I want to go out, take pictures, and have pictures taken of me for outfit/makeup/lifestyle posts. I just want to try and step out my comfort zone gradually (also try and stop turning tomato red when I need to answer a question in class) because "everything you want is on the other side of fear".

// READ 30 BOOKS

For 2015 I put in 35 for my reading challenge on Goodreads, did I complete that? No. Minus that by 15 and that's how many books I read. I ONLY READ 20 BOOKS. I usually read a lot during the summer breaks so it could've been because I was busy with moving this or I was just on a reading slump (excuses, excuses, excuses).  I definitely want to read more so 30 is a must for this year.

Hope you all have a wonderful year ahead of you!
What goals have you set for yourself?

  3. Good luck for your goals, girl. Moving is never easy - leaving all the familiar places behind and adjusting to a new environment isn't an easy task. I hope it all will work out best for you :) and I set a very small GoodReads challenge so that it won't fail (10 books, yikes!). I read far many than 10, but I will surely be more honest in 2016. Wink.

  10. Yousra, these are such lovely resolutions and i'll have to say that mine are pretty much the same. Being optimistic and stop belittling myself are things I'll definitely try to work on.

    Don't be too hard on yourself, though! Cheers to the new year!

  14. I think the key in our life is to truly have optimism and believe that it can only get better from here.

    Personally, my favourite has to do with the books. I'm a book nerd. Actually, I just love to read - period. It's why I'm in love with blogging and blogs.

    Happy New Year!

  19. 20 books sounds like a lot to me!! Haha. The second point about other people's talents is SUCH a great resolution and one I've never really heard before. It's so important to remember that we're all different and, chances are, there's something they admire just as much about you! Loved this post :)
